URBANIZACIÓN

IGB's works:
– Urbanization project
– Construction management

Location: Madrid, Spain
Client: Cuatro Torres Buisness Area
Area: 16 Ha
Tertiary: 350.317 m²

IGB realized the project and carried out the technical assistance to the works management of the city of Madrid for the sites of the A.P.R. 08.04 (old "Ciudad Deportiva del Real Madrid", today "Cuatro Torres Business Area") and the new North and South tunnels of Pio XII. We have also developed the urbanization project surrounding the four towers and carried out the work direction.

The technical complexity of these underground works is highlighted. Having been built in an urban space bordering the Paseo della Castellana to the north and being near the La Paz hospital, the works involved numerous services. Furthermore, unique works have had to be performed, such as the crossing of the lower passage of the Paseo de la Castellana, the support of an existing service tunnel of the Canal de Isabel II and the underpass of the Chamartin station. In addition, an hard work of coordination with the simultaneous work of the towers was necessary.

The work of the Distributor meets three objectives. First, it completes, together with the works of the new Tunnel Pío XII and those of the Remodeling of the Nude de la Paloma, the important east-west road axis of Madrid. This connects, directly, the Paseo de la Castellana and the Sinesio Delgado-Monforte de Lemos axes with the M-30 ring road of the city of Madrid.

Secondly, it creates a public unidirectional underground annular distributor, with accessibility from the streets of the area and from the Castellana axis. The underground Distributor surrounds the building land, facilitating access to the towers and the area behind them.

Finally, other tunnels have been included in this project (the transverse connection tunnel from the Avda. De San Luis and the access of collective road transport to the transport interchanges in the northern area of Madrid: Plaza de Castilla and Chamartin Station ). These are part of the distributor area and the structure has been built. These were included in the project to minimize future affections for residents and traffic in the area, as they stand in solidarity with the structures of the new Pio XII tunnels and the Distributor.

The North Tunnel of Pius XII has a length of 1,360 m, the South Tunnel of Pius XII of 1,629 m and the Distributor of 1,100 m with five entry points and as many exit points.

The tunnels are equipped with the most modern structures in terms of control, safety and signaling, among which the following stand out:

  • Ventilation control
  • Lighting control
  • Light signaling and signaling system
  • Pressure gauge and traffic measurement system
  • Closed TV circuit
  • Automatic incident detection
  • Emergency points and megaphone system
  • Radiant cable for maintenance of mobile telephony and radio signal
  • Control center
  • Communications network
  • Emergency signs

The project included the urbanization of the roads affected by the works of the distributor surrounding the A.P.R. This includes flooring, vertical and horizontal signs, traffic lights, rehabilitation, public lighting, water supply network, natural gas supply network, gardening, irrigation network and street furniture. Service tunnels have been created in the annular distributor.

In the area where the towers are located, a specific urbanization project was realized that includes special furniture, ornamental fountains and a gardening project.
